Weekly Training Plan: Avery Collins

Going into each week I like to assess where my body is at and what will be manageable and a good goal for the week.

4 Reasons Trail Races Can Be Your COVID Antidote

It’s time to kick the “is this still happening?” mentality and use your local trail races as a reliable way to kick CORONA in the butt. These community events will give you safe human interaction, high-quality exercise, and maybe most importantly right now, peace of mind.

MUIR's Commitment to Sustainability and a Better Tomorrow

Always striving to be better, we have aligned with 1% For the Planet and committed to becoming Climate Neutral certified while making our actions as transparent as possible. We know a better tomorrow begins with us and our community and we know that starts today.

Looking for a race, these are still ON!

Race canceled or still looking to squeeze an ultra in before the year is out? We’ve got you covered. There is no denying the world is changing every day, but as of today, we know these races are a go and from a distance, look like they’d be a real hoot. Don’t let COVID get you down, find a race and make it yours.

3 Easy Steps To Get You Back In Training Mode

It’s been a long couple of months for everyone, and to think anyone has cruised through this uprising of the COVID era is blasphemy. But we at MUIR have decided, enough is enough (of couch time) and it’s time to get back to training. Whether it’s a personal goal to get back to fighting shape or you have a race on the calendar with fingers crossed race day becomes a reality, getting back on track with your training regimen is going to prove vital to your mental and physical health.

Feeling Blue?

Today is a great day to feel blue, well even if you’ve been feeling blue all month that’s okay because July is National Blueberry Month. Tiny, juicy, and full of antioxidants, the blueberry certainly deserves more celebration than just a single month, but here we are and the flavors are explosive.

Independent Retailers

Born in the High Sierra out of necessity for something better, MUIR’s beginnings point back to the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market and a handful of independent retailers in San Diego that were willing to give us a try. And thanks to those small shops that saw something special in our real food nutrition, we have built a long lasting relationship with mutual support at its core.

Best National Parks to Visit and Run

With the way the world is operating these days, there really is no better time than now to pack up the car and hit the road. Once your family catches wind of your grand idea, they are going to be thrilled that you’re coming to see them, but we’re a ways out from any dedicated family holiday, so this road trip is going about you, stretching the legs, and taking in the natural wonders of our National Parks. With 60 plus parks spread across the country, you shouldn’t have to drive too far before you run into one. And while everyone knows Yellowstone, Yosemite, and even the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with the highest yearly visitors, there are a few that are a little more oriented to putting the tread of your shoe to dirt for miles on end.

5 Iconic Trails in the US

Happy 4th of July Weekend, and while the 4th may be a little quieter this year without the big boom and pretty lights, let's celebrate America’s Independence out on the trail. And because you may have an extra day off this weekend, perhaps we can offer some guidance with 5 of the more iconic trails around the U.S. to really earn that third hot dog from the grill.

Train to Eat

Looking for an edge when it comes to running ultras? Start eating on your training runs. You would never start an ultra without first training with your gear or working on your fitness for months. Yet, many runners overlook the nutrition aspect of an ultra. When running long distances, your body needs fuel.

MUIR In The Community

In the past months, with your help, we’ve donated hundreds of gels to healthcare and front line workers around the country. We recently teamed up with Bike for Humanity to support those impacted by COVID-19 and donated a percentage of sales from Mother’s Day to a local San Diego non-profit, Home Start, supporting those challenged by the stay home mandate. And during MUIR-th Day (John Muir’s bday and Earth Day) donated to the JMT Wilderness Conservancy to help ready the trail for re-opening.

The 'Running' Playlist

Surely with all the streaming happening right now you’ve probably cruised through your entire music collection and are dying for a new anthem to help you push further. And while everyone has a different perception of what the best music is while out collecting miles, there are a handful of songs that will provide the aural pleasure for the masses. So, how about a playlist dedicated to songs all about “running”?
